What is an Edible Landscape?

by Sarah Duke

More and more people are moving away from the idea of simple lawns and towards making their outdoor space into more natural landscapes including useful, even edible plants! A lot of edible plants happen to be quite aesthetically pleasing; some vegetables and herbs also have ornamental varieties. It’s great to have your own vegetables – fuel costs are driving up the price of all food products, and produce is no exception.

If you’re interested in creating edible landscapes yourself, you’ll likely want to opt for perennials, since they will return year after year, saving you a lot of work each spring. After planting them once, these plants will give you food and something pleasing to look at for years to come.

Collectible China Is More Than Just Kitchen Plates

by Kurt Schefken

ollecting has always been a popular hobby, particularly of common household items. One of the most popular types of collectible are plates. Those commonplace staples are fascinating for their diverse patterns and uses.

Most of us are familiar with ads for commemorative plates. These celebrate cherished celebrities, like Princess Diana, Elvis or Dale Earnhart. Or they may pay tribute to favorite artists, such as Walt Disney or Norman Rockwell. They are often sold in numbered series and are available in gift shops, online or even through a collector’s club. These plates may or not increase in value, depending on how many are made and sold. Find a subject you like and pick pieces you would enjoy displaying in your home. Be careful: If an item is too popular, it may “glut” the market. There will be too many available to make your piece rise in value. That’s why it’s important to collect what you really like.

The Coolest Piano Lamp You Ever Did See

by Chuck Stewart

Piano lamps are a great addition to the top of any piano. Lighting the playing surface with candles was the original design. It provided a lot of beauty to the largest performance halls down to the beginning childhood piano lessons. The bright light would often give off a blinding glare. The inconsistent light increased eyestrain. Electricity lead to the creation of the light bulb, which helped lead to the invention of the modern day piano lamp. The piano light became very popular as it could display light from several different angles increasing the overall enjoyment for the player. A piano lamp will help to complete the appearance of any room dcor, dramatically increasing the look and feel of the most limited music rooms or the grandest concert halls.

Moving into an imposing Victorian 19th century home can be both a thrilling adventure and intimidating. This type of project could become a huge enterprise especially with a husband and four children. For the initial year after they moved into the home, they didn’t modify a thing. Her acquaintances had the notion that she liked the magic and prettiness of old Victorian to a little excess.
