Classifying Tiles

There are a huge variety of tiles depending on its quality, usage, what its made of, color, etc. Tiles are a popular flooring choice among homes because of it instantly adds a boost of design among its surroundings. Tiles are very common in residential places nowadays since they are very durable and are efficient for high traffic areas. It is very flexible to use as there are a lot of colors and shapes to choose from. It is best to place on high traffic areas because of its durability.

Classification of tiles according to Decoration:

Glass tiles are generally made of pigmented glass that is cut up in small pieces after it has achieved its desired thickness. They are mainly used for decorative purposes only and are not advisable as flooring options. Why? Because they are non-load bearing and ideal for wall applications only. Glass tiles are often seen in kitchen splashboards and decorative wall applications. Mosaic tiles are an example of glass tiles that are cut in little shapes. Some glass tiles permit light to go through them in spite of its design.

Stainless Steel tiles are also mainly used for decorative purposes. They are often seen in showroom or commercial spaces. They are also ideal to use on areas that should be heat resistant such as in kitchens.

Tiles according to type:

Ceramic Tiles are from porcelain or natural clay and are commonly used nowadays. Characteristics of a ceramic tile includes: flexibility, durability, high tensile strength and aesthetic appeal. Ceramic tiles are very easy to clean and maintain since it will just require wiping with a damp cloth or with a soap and water solution. There are a lot of available colors to choose from and designing with ceramic tiles are practically endless.

Stone tiles are commonly used outdoors. Most of this kind is also made of clay. They are not suitable for indoor use because some are unpolished which makes it ideal for patios, driveways, etc.
