There are a couple different options when it comes to making your own solar generator for your house.
A portable solar power generator could be very helpful if you like to take a lot of camping trips and need the power there, in distant locations.
But if you want to make a solar generator for house, you have two options: you could make one that uses your existing power source, or you could go “off the grid” and build a system that doesn’t rely on your existing utilities at all.
Here I’m going to focus on the most basic option available to you – also known as the “on grid” solar generator. Even if you’re new to this and haven’t made your own energy systems before, you should still be able to follow the steps here and make your own solar generator.
Not only is this method fairly straightforward, the other advantage is that if you produce more electricity than you use in one month you’ll get paid by your electric company!
Here are the five parts you need to complete this basic generator: solar panels, an AC breaker panel, an inverter, an array DC disconnect, and a kilowatt per hour meter. Here the basic steps you need to complete this generator:
The first step: connect your array DC disconnect to your solar panels to ensure that the power can be turned on and off.
Next, you need to connect the inverter to your array DC disconnect – this ensures that the direct current electric generated from your solar panels can be turned into alternating current, to be used in your house.
The final step: connect the AC breaker panel in your house to your inverter. The AC breaker panel connects to all the household appliances you have and delivers power to them.
Then, if you want to make sure that you get paid by the electric power company, you need to connect your kilowatt per per hour meter to the AC breaker panel and to your grid power source.
If you don’t have the skills to connect everything properly to the AC breaker panel, you definitely want to call an electrician and have him help you. In some states it’s actually illegal to do this by yourself, so you want to be very careful.
But if you can follow all the steps properly and create your own solar generator, you can start going off the grid right now.
