by Todd Alan

Most of you will already know that a fire pit is just a small pit that you start your very own fire in and sit around enjoying it with friends and family. Fire pits are not a new phenomena and have been enjoyed by families for centuries the world over. There is no denying that a fire pit is great for any family or social gathering, you can all sit around and chat with the warmth and radiance emanating from the fire pit. Not only that, you can even use your fire pit for cooking, when camping with friends or family.

However, many people end up asking what goes into making a good fire pit, and this should also be on your mind if you intend to make one yourself. The main idea is to get the basics right, and perfection comes with practice. When looking for a place to make your fire pit, ideally look for open spaces where you can build your fire pit without any combustible materials in the vicinity. Building your fire pit in open spaces would allow you to enjoy the fire pit in the best possible way.

In looking for a suitable spot for building your fire pit, you should ensure that it is the safest and the most ideal spot. Once that is taken care of, you can start planning your fire pit. Depending on the fires size that you want, the next step would be to decide how wide your fire pit should be. In doing so, ensure that you do not build a very big fire pit, as this could cause problems later on. A majority of the times, a fire pit one or two feet in circumference is sufficient.

Once youve decided on what size you want your fire pit to be and are done with the measurements, you can start making the fire pit. In order to do this, you would require some marking as well as digging equipment. You would first need to mark the shape in which you want your fire pit, and then dig out the soil from the marked area. In digging, make sure that the depth is sufficient for accommodating the source of fuel you intend to use. This taken care, you can then add brick pavers surrounding the fire pit for additional safety.

Now it is time to get the fire pit ready for use. Add some pea gravel and sand into the fire pit hole. This will form the basis of your fire pit. Let this settle overnight and then tomorrow you can get started on concreting the foundations around your fire pit to give the fire pit the permanency that you are looking for. It is that simple, and just think it was only yesterday that you were wondering how to build a fire pit. Now you have your very own fire pit and you can tell your friends how to build a fire pit for themselves.
