The Surinam Cherry Bonsai Tree is a sub tropic oriental tree that can be grown in the Southern United States. Originating in Hong Kong and South China they can grow inside your home or they can flourish just as well outside. If you plan to place them inside your home they make fantastic conversation pieces and add elegance to any room.

It has dark green leaves (bronze or red depending on the season) and red bark that peels off in layers. It has a slender truck and the branches spread outward. As the tree matures it will produce red fruit which appears during the spring and summer.

Special note should be made that you should only use either distilled bottled drinking water or Reverse Osmosis purified water when watering your Surinam Cherry Bonsai tree, or any other type of bonsai tree. Your average carbon filtered water systems will not do. This type of water still has chlorine metals and minerals in it that has the potential to harm this type of tree. It a good idea to fully water the tree with a spray bottle. Once down, let the soil dry out before watering again. Keep your bonsai tree in full or moderate sunshine for best results. It does require a special type of fertilizer that you can obtain over the internet.

The age of the tree as well as its appearance determines the price of these trees. But they are well worth the price you pay for such a beautiful miniature tree. The youngest Surinam Bonsai Tree I have seen is 6 years old.

This training and pruning can be done several ways and may take many years. The use of weights can be very helpful in this process. Weights can change the look of the tree, drastically. The owner may prefer to see just how the tree is going to grow before taking any steps.
